Trip Summary

South-west Bulgaria is a land of mountains – a rolling sea of independent massifs separated from one another by deep gorges and mountain passes. This is where Rila and Pirin Mountains rise up high and well above 2500m, with the highest peak reaching almost 3000m.

Our off-piste ski tour starts from the village of Govedartsi at the foot of the Rila Mountains. We first climb Mt. Mussala, at 2925m the highest peak in south-east Europe. On another day we go up to Mechit peak with its superb downhill run into the Maliovitsa valley. But the highlight of the tour is undoubtedly the trip to the Ezerata mountain hut, which involves climbing Mt. Maliovitsa at 2729m and then skiing down to the hut.

If the snow conditions allow, we also get to ski downhill to Rila Monastery. If not, we drive there to visit Bulgaria’s largest and most iconic monastery, set in a stunning location in the heart of the mountains. We then drive on to Bansko at the foot of the alpine Pirin Mountains.

In Pirin we will experience two more adrenalin-pumping ski tours. One of them could be a climb to the highest peak, Mt. Vihren at 2914m. The areas of Todorka and Bezbog also offer some great places for ski mountaineering.

Our guides hold national mountain leader diplomas and are also professional ski instructors. Several of them are members of the Bulgarian mountain rescue team. All of them have years of experience in leading ski groups.  Have a look at the detailed itinerary….
