Day by day itinerary
Day 1: Tour starts in Sofia – the capital of Bulgaria
Arrive in Sofia and meet your guide. From the airport we make a transfer to the hotel, which is in downtown Sofia. Your hotel gives you the chances to explore the city on foot. You will stay for 4 nights in Sofia. This evening your guide will show you around and suggest places for dinner and nightlife.

Day 2: A day for Sofia
We dedicate the day for Sofia and its surroundings. In the morning walking tour in the center of Sofia where you will see all major cultural monuments. Among them are Alexander Nevski Cathedral, Saint Sofia Basilica, the Roman ruins, the mineral springs, the markets, etc.
After that you continue with a transfer to the outskirt of the town where you will visit the National Museum of History and Boyana Church. The last one is included in the UNSECO List and preserves fabulous frescos from the year 1259.
Later you return to your hotel for an evening at your leisure.
Option: The visit of the National Museum of history and Boyana church can be replaced with a few hour walk in Vitosha Mountains.

Day 3: A day trip to Koprivshtitca and Plovdiv
Today you visit Koprivshtitca town, the Thracian tomb of Seuthes III and finish in Plovdiv, where you will overnight.
In the morning transfer from Sofia to Koprivshtitca town – a tiny Mountainous town that has preserved a lot of the traditional Bulgarian spirit and many old houses built in XVIII and XIXc. Here you can learn more about the Bulgarian Renaissance and the years of the Ottoman Domination in this lands. You have the chance to visit 5 of the old houses that have been turned into ethnographical museums.
Later you continue by car to the second largest city in Bulgaria – Plovdiv. Here you will explore its Old Town dotted with numerous cultural monuments from different historical periods. Among them are the Roman Theatre, the Roman stadium, the Ethnographical Museum, the East Gate from the 4th century, mansions from the 19th century and more. In a very small territory you will see “live” examples of all important historical periods of these lands. Along the way you may choose, with the assistance of your guide, which museum are worth visiting.
The modern town is doted with shops and bars – a pedestrian street crosses from one end to the other.
In the late afternoon you transfer back to Sofia city.

Day 4: A day trip to Rila Monastery
Today you visit Rila Monastery and make a short walk in the forest surrounding the complex.
In the morning transfer to Rila Monastery – the largest Orthodox Monastery in Bulgaria, included in the UNESCO heritage. Worth visiting are the main church with exceptional murals, the history museum and the medieval tower.
Later you go to the cave where the founder, St. John from Rila, lived for 7 years and where he put the foundations of what became the Rila Monastery a few centuries later. You walk down from the cave to the monastery through a forest that is declared a natural park because of the uniqueness of the tree species.
In the late afternoon transfer back to Sofia city.
Optional: Instead of the walk to the cave you could do wine tasting in Medi Valley winery. After a major renovation, the winery was recently reopened and welcomes its guests warmly for wine tasting that enliven the senses. The terroir here is influenced both by the Struma river valley and the mountain. The outcome – fleshy, full-bodied, harmony wines that are worth a try and will surprise you!
This visit is not included and should be paid in addition. The costs varies from 3 to 13€ depending on the package.
